Crucifixion and Blasphemy
Answering Skeptics, Defending Faith
Question 1.
Why do Christians believe an almighty God would require the death of someone to expiate the sins of humanity?
Either you pay the price or someone pays it on your behalf.
The wages of sin is death.
Either you die for your sin or a substitute (who has not committed sin) dies in your place.
Ergo, the sacrificial Lamb of God
Question 2.
Today someone said something blasphemous about Jesus to his friends and his friends were all laughing. As a Christian, should I stay silent or confront the person?
What would you’ve done if someone had mocked or used profanity towards your mother, father, sister, or wife?
As passionate followers of Christ who deeply love and revere Christ, the one who gave His life in our place, we cannot stand idly by when we witness blasphemy against our Lord. The very thought of someone mocking His name should send a surge of righteous indignation through our veins.
Remaining silent in the face of such blasphemy is not an option. Remember the example of Phineas in the Bible, who took a stand for God's honor when he saw the Israelites engaging in idolatry and sexual immorality. Filled with zealous love for the Lord, Phineas did not hesitate to take action and put a stop to the transgressions.
Remember David, a man after God's own heart. When he encountered the blasphemous giant Goliath, he did not shrink back in fear or stay silent. Instead, he boldly declared “who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?
Our response to blasphemy should not be one of passivity or silence. We are warriors of the Most High God, unafraid to engage in the battle for truth. Our mission is clear: to defend the name of our Savior, to proclaim His victory, and to lead others to the saving grace found only in Him.
"Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 10:32-33)
